Attacking Principles

Pressure point study notes and training considerations.

Possible Effects

Attacking pressure points can generate several possible effects on the body, depending on the method of attack and individual factors such as body type, susceptibility and even mental attitude. Below is a list of possible reactions from pressure point application.

Pain
Involuntary reactions
Delayed reactions
Disorientation
Paralysis
Loss of consciousness
Death
Nothing, no reaction at all

Methods of Attack

Attack points sensitive to pressure
Attack clustered points
Attack points bi-laterally
Attack the same meridian at multiple points
Attack related Yin/Yang pairs
Attack using cycle of destruction
Attack according to Qi flow
Attack alarm or special points

No Guarantees

Nothing in this world is guaranteed and this especially applies to pressure point application. Attacking pressure points requires very precise targeting, and depends on angle of attack. If your targeting is off or the angle of attack is wrong the point will be unaffected.

However, sometimes power can overcome minor inaccuracies in your technique. In a combat situation there are many variables: movement of the opponent, clothing and demeanor of the attacker all influence your ability to accurately hit anything.

It is easy to find points on yourself or a willing partner. But it is very different when the quarter size target is moving rapidly, covered by clothing and is trying to rip your head off. So let's keep that in mind when training.
